The yachtsman

Alex Thomson is more than just a professional yacht racer and a highly driven individual. His desire to win, and to be one of the best round the-world sailors Britain has ever seen, influences everything he does from his tough training regime and sleep deprivation schedule to his meticulous attention to detail during his new boat build.

It is these strengths that made Alex the youngest skipper to ever win a round-the-world challenge in the 1998-1999 Clipper Race. After catapulting onto the solo ocean racing scene with a bang, when he broke the world speed sailing record in 2003, Alex's first two solo races were met with disappointment when structural failures forced him to retire.

The campaign

With the launch of his new Open60 race boat in 2007, and podium places in both the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Barcelona World Race, he has once again proved he is a talent to be reckoned with.

Internationally renowned companies such as the fashion house HUGO BOSS and Volvo Cars UK are signed up as partners and sponsors, playing their role in ensuring Alex is all set for his bid to win the 2008 Vendée Globe.
